TO ALL PATIENTS OF DR GARROD'S PRACTICE.
Due to todays change in COVID restrictions and the lifting of some of the lockdown rules we are now able to open our practice doors.
We have been advised by NHS England that we must still adhere to social distancing rules so please follow the below guidelines.
Only come to the practice if you have a face to face appointment or if absolutely necessary.
If you do come to the practice please make sure that you are wearing a face covering.
We can only have 4 patients in the waiting room safely so if the number will exceed that you may still have to wait outside. Due to the size of our branch surgeries there will be a limit of 3 in each waiting room at Delabole Surgery and St Breward Surgery.
When you come into the practice please use the hand sanitiser provided on the wall at the entrance and social distance using the tape on the floor.
We will still telephone triage patients and offer a face to face appointment if clinically required which is what we have done throughout the pandemic and advice is that this practice continues.
When you come into the practice please go to the left side of the reception desk if you are a Dr Garrod patient and please go to the right side of reception if you are Veor Group (Dr Pande or Dr Norris) patient.
Thank you for your continuing patience and support.
Dr Garrod and Team
ONLINE SERVICES UPDATE - DR GARRODS PATIENTS.
Firstly I would like to thank you for your patience whilst we have got to grips with the new system. But we are now raring to go....
I am pleased to say that a number of patients have already registered and requested their medication via Patient Access which is great.
If you would like to sign up to Patient Access to request repeat prescriptions and later on, further services, then there are two ways to do this:-
One way is to email the practice at email@example.com and request to be set up. We will set you up and you will be sent an automated email with a list of links and the link to use is the first one - Patient Access. All the information that you need to fully register will be in that email.
The other way is to go to the website and register. This will not give you all the services straight away but will send us a message so that we can complete the process and give you full access and again you will receive an email with the information that you need to enable your account fully.
If you were with the previous online service (The Waiting Room) or have previously provided ID at the practice then we will not ask for this again. However, if you haven't then we may ask you to bring ID to the practice before we can fully register you.
We would encourage as many patients to sign up to this service.
Once we have upgraded the telephone system and we are getting back to "normal" we won't be taking repeat requests over the telephone.
Thank you again for your patience.
Latest Practice News - March 2021
Apologies for not updating more often but we have had a busy fortnight due to the change of patient record system. We are now fully migrated to the new system and every day is a school day with lots to learn. But the whole team have done remarkably well through a very challenging time.... Also a massive thank you to all our patients that have been very patient with us.
Vaccination Update: We have now able to book Cohorts 7, 8 and 9 into the Bodmin Treatment Centre and patients in those cohorts should also get a letter to be able to book into the Wadebridge Showground if that is their preference. There may be an overlap so if we call you and you have already booked into Wadebridge then just let us know when we call.
Please do not call us , we will call you.... Also we have no way of booking you into Wadebridge or altering an appointment and we would advise that you call 119 or book online. Your letter should have the details about booking there.
We shall also soon be able to book the 2nd vaccinations for those in the early cohorts that had their 1st vaccination in the new year. Again we will call you so please don't call us.
Prescriptions: We are now able to send more prescriptions electronically to Boots in Camelford and if that is your designated pharmacy then they have advised us to wait at least 48 hrs before collecting your repeat prescription following your request. Urgent prescriptions such as antibiotics can be collected sooner and they have advised for those that you call before collecting to avoid a wasted journey.
Thank you and keep safe and well!
New Patient Records System – EMIS
On the 2nd March 2021 we are migrating to a new patient record system.. To ensure that this change is as smooth as possible we need to make some adjustments to our service and what we are able to offer during those two weeks, as follows:
With immediate effect we are unable to register new patients. If you wish to register with us you may submit your registration forms but please be aware that we can’t process this until after we have migrated. IF you are a new patient and need urgent clinical care then please do get in touch with the surgery. If you need a prescription we would ask you to get in touch with your current surgery in order to issue you medication.
From Monday 22nd February 2021 we will only be able offer urgent “on the day” telephone consultations with the doctor and this will continue for two weeks. We will be unable to book any routine appointments during that time and we will ask you to call back after those two weeks to book any routine appointments.
From Monday 22nd February 2021 we will only be able to book urgent nurse or HCA appointments such as urgent blood tests or ECG’s and any necessary dressings. Again for routine nurse and HCA appointments we will ask you to call back after the two week period.
Migration Day – Tuesday 2nd March 2021
We can only book urgent ‘on the day’ appointments on this day and won’t be able to book any until 10am. This is to allow the technical work for the change-over and for training to take place.
I would please ask for your patience during this time. All the staff will be working very hard in order for this process to take place and for us to be able to get back to “business as usual” as soon as we can.
I will be sending out further information regarding the change over from The Waiting Room to Patient Access (online services) but the last day that you will be able to order your prescriptions online will be Thursday 25th February 2021. To order a repeat prescription in the interim period please send requests to firstname.lastname@example.org . Please try not to call so that the phone can be used for patients that urgently need clinical care.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.
COVID VACCINATION UPDATE.
We are continuing to book patients, that are in cohorts 1 - 4, appointments at the Bodmin Treatment Centre when Covid vaccine is available and will continue to do so... Again, please do not call us we will call you.
There is also another option for the North Cornwall patients and that is to have your vaccination at the Wadebridge Showground. This is not booked by your GP practice and we have no access to be able to book, change or cancel an appointment here. This is centrally run by the NHS and they are sending out letters to ask you to book online or by calling NHS 119.
The NHS central team are sending letters in all eligible cohorts inviting you to book your appointment at Wadebridge in this way.
IMPORTANT... IF YOU WOULD STILL LIKE TO HAVE YOUR VACCINATION IN THE BODMIN TREATMENT CENTRE THEN PLEASE IGNORE THE LETTER AND WAIT FOR YOUR CALL.
If you already have an appointment booked at Bodmin Treatment Centre then ignore the letter and attend that appointment.
If you prefer to have yours in Wadebridge then you can book as per your letter (online or 119) but you don't have to call your surgery to let us know.
If you have booked in Wadebridge and we call you then please let us know. There may be a crossover so apologies.
I hope this helps.....We are on track and are working hard to make sure that all our patients 70 and over and those that are clinically vulnerable are invited for a vaccination by the governments target of 14th February 2021.
Best Wishes and Stay Safe.
Lockdown #3 /Surgery Update
We wanted to update you on your surgeries services and how we are continuing to keep you and our staff safe, as follows:
- Our doors remain locked but the surgery is open.
- All patients who want to see the Dr will be offered a telephone call first so that he can make a clinical decision about whether to see you and whether it is safe to do so.
- We ask that if you do come to the surgery you wear a mask and knock on the window.
- If you do come in we will take your temperature and give you hand sanitiser to use.
- If you are over 65, under 65 with a chronic disease or are 50 to 64 yrs old we can offer you a flu jab and are calling patients to book you in. We have a Saturday FLU clinic on 16th January and lots of spaces to fill. Call for your appointment if we don’t call you first!
- When we are able to book a COVID vaccine and if are over 80 we will call you when we have appointments available at the Bodmin Treatment Centre .
- Please do not come to the surgery if you have ANY of the symptoms of COVID 19, please stay away and call NHS 111 or 119 for medical advice or to book a test.
I would like to ask you to be patient with all our staff, we are working very hard to provide the best service under continuing difficult circumstances and we are trying our hardest for our patients as always. We have had a very few calls where patients have shouted or used bad language to our reception staff and this won’t be tolerated and you could be asked to register elsewhere.
Let’s be kind to each other and keep each other safe.
All the Team at Churchfield Practice.
COVID Vaccinations at Bodmin Treatment Centre
If you received a Covid vaccination at Bodmin Treatment Centre in December, please still attend for your second vaccination this week. You were given an appointment date/time for this second vaccination at the time of booking which will have been either Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th or Thursday 7th and was predominantly the same day of the week/time.
All other patients who are yet to receive their first vaccination please wait for us to contact you. As we receive more vaccinations we will be in touch.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Face Masks/Face Coverings
We have had a few calls regarding face-masks and face-coverings and namely patients asking for an exemption letter from Dr Garrod so they don't have to wear one in shops/supermarkets when this comes in on Friday 24th July 2020 as per government advice.
If you feel that you are exempt from wearing a mask or face-covering (and there is a list on GOV.UK) then you have to self declare that if you are approached about not wearing one. We can't provide you with a letter of exemption.
Our advice is that when you can wear a face mask or face covering then you should to protect yourself when you are out and about and especially in shops or supermarkets and of course on public transport. Covering your face and social distancing continue to be the best ways to avoid contracting the Coronavirus.
It seems very early to be talking about the "Flu Season" and your flu vaccinations but as a surgery we would very much like to be prepared.
If you are over 65 or have one of the medical conditions that means you are entitled to a flu vaccination, or you have a child that is 2 or 3 yrs old, please be aware that we would have already ordered your vaccination for you. So please do support your practice and when the time comes please book your vaccination with us. The first flu clinics will be in early to mid September and we are planning on running Saturday clinics in Camelford as well as giving the vaccinations in surgery hours at all three branches. Please look out for your letter and book your appointment as soon as you receive it.
Please be assured that we are already planning on the safest way for you to come to us to have your flu vaccination. Your safety is our priority!
Please see the below link if you need pregnancy advice at the current time.

Macmillian Telephone Buddies....
Macmillan Telephone Buddies - Macmillan Cancer Support
I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. I would like to thank you for your patience at what has been a difficult and challenging time for both our patients and for the practice.
I would like to be very clear that the practice is still open and has been throughout and if you need to speak to or see a doctor then you should call the practice. We have very strict processes in place to protect both you and our team if you do need to come into the practice so you don't need to be concerned and put off anything that you are worried about.
We will be open on Friday 8th May 2020 but this will be for anything urgent that can't wait until after the weekend. If you call in you will receive a telephone call from the GP who will decide whether you need to be seen or can be given advice.
Please see the link below this, this is some guidance and planning on what to do if you become ill and could be useful.
I would like to say a big thank you to those patients that have sent goodies in for the staff, we have had two lovely cakes this week. This is much appreciated and keeps our spirits up at this time so THANK YOU!
Stay safe and well and remember if you need to speak to the GP or need to be seen then we are open so don't hesitate to call if you need to.
Patients, PLEASE READ....
If you’re thinking of calling your GP practice please remember this -
- We can’t do prescriptions early or give you more just in case - the pharmacies are struggling already, you don’t want the pharmacies to be like the supermarkets.
- We can’t give you an inhaler even though you had one 5 years ago when you had a bad cough - just in case - I know it’s scary but lots of people really really need these inhalers and if you get one just in case they might not be able to get one that they really need!
- We cant give you paracetamol on prescription just because you can’t buy it over the counter.
- We can’t advise you whether you should or shouldn’t self-isolate if you are at risk, we have 3,000 patients - please follow the guidance I know it’s not perfect but we don’t have anything else we can tell you.
- If you are due to have a routine appointment and we tell you it’s cancelled, try and understand the unprecedented strain we are trying to get through
- We are not able to help with requests for online shopping slots or centrally issued food parcels.
Please be aware that when you are calling about these issues you may be taking away a call from a patient who needs medical attention, and if you are struggling to get through then it could be these types of calls that are stopping you from getting medical attention.
Please don’t be rude to your GP staff when they can’t do these things because remember we will still make sure you get the medication you NEED and we will still provide the best possible care - over the phone or face to face if absolutely necessary!
Every single person who sets foot in a healthcare setting from now on, is sadly entering a high risk environment, why would you put yourself at risk?
Remember all NHS staff are doing this to help keep you safe and to keep our staff safe so that we can remain open for you and be able to offer you health care when you need it.
Coronavirus Update on actions by your Practice - Wednesday 18th March 2020.
We have made the decision to lock the practice doors at this current time, this includes St Breward Surgery and Delabole Surgery. However, this does not mean that the practice is closed..We are taking the following measures for your protection and in order to make sure we are still able to offer you the best services we can:
1. When you call the practice you will be asked if you have any symptoms, such as fever/high temperature, or a cough. Please be very honest about this and don't take any chances with your health or others.
2. All patients that call in will be offered a telephone call with the GP if required - Please give our receptionist as much detail as possible. Following the telephone call the GP will then decide if a face to face appointment is clinically necessary.
3. If you have an appointment booked with the nurse then this may be cancelled if not immediately needed. If the appointment is clinically necessary then you will be called prior to your appointment and asked if you have any symptoms before you attend.
4. If you do need to come to the Practice you must knock on the door and someone will come to you. If you have to come into the practice then you will be asked again about symptoms and also someone will take your temperature to make sure it is safe for you to come in.
5. If you need a repeat prescription then please post it through the letterbox and this will be actioned. If you have a query regarding your prescription or a special request then please attach a note or call the practice.
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO AN INCREASED DEMAND ON THEIR SERVICES - BOOTS IN CAMELFORD ARE ASKING YOU TO ALLOW AT LEAST 72 hrs BEFORE YOU COLLECT YOUR PRESCRIPTION. THEY ARE PRIORITISING URGENT PRESCRIPTIONS FIRST.
If you have any further queries then please do get in touch...
Coronavirus Update on actions by your practice.
From today, Monday 16th March 2020, we will be calling all patients already booked to see if you have a cough, cold or fever. If you do then we will have to cancel your appointment and ask you to self isolate for 7 days. When you are symptom free you can then call and rebook your appointment with us.
If you call for an appointment we will book a telephone call with the doctor first who will assess you over the telephone and decide whether you need to be seen at the practice. Please give our reception team as much information as possible about why you need an appointment.
This measure has been put in place to protect all our patients and is the national advice.
The website will continue to update you so please do keep checking.
I wanted to pass on the advice to you that has been given to us by Public Health England regarding Coronavirus...
If you have been to an affected area in the last 14 days or have been in contact with someone who has been tested and confirmed as having coronavirus and have the following symptoms: COUGH, FEVER, or SHORTNESS of BREATH, then for your sake and others please stay at home and either call NHS 111 or go to gov.uk/coronavirus for advice.
If you do think that you are at risk then please do not come to the practice, you MUST stay at home and seek advice.
Temporary Suspension of list to all patients unless they are new to the area
Dear New Patient,
Please be aware due to circumstances outside of our control, we will be temporarily suspending registrations to our list to all patients who already have access to a local GP. This includes Dr Nash’s Camelford Practice, Bottreaux Practice in Boscastle and Port Isaac. Our list will still be open to all new patients who move to the area and do not have access to a local GP.
This decision has been supported by NHS England and has been made in order to: 1) eliminate any instability in the locality in regards to primary care services; and 2) to ensure that our practice patient list size doesn’t increase dramatically in the short term and put unrealistic pressure on one GP Practice.
If you require any additional information regarding this decision then please direct your queries to the NHS Customer Contact Centre either by telephone on 0300 311 22 33 or by email email@example.com .
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Amanda Tamblin and I am the new Practice Manager for Churchfield Practice.
I have spent the last few weeks on a very steep learning curve but feel like I am settling in well now and enjoying the role very much.
The best part of being a Practice Manager is talking to you, our patients, so if there is anything that I can do to help or you just want to say hello then please do get in touch!
In the meantime I , on behalf of Dr Garrod and all the team, would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Welcome to Dr Garrod Camelford Medical Centre
With patient’s needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need about all three of our practice locations.
